Critical analysis of current Islamic trends
  second class: Intro to Fiqh
IPSA-Cape Town 2019
This is from the second lecture (out of 10), which Dr.Jasser teaches as a “Contemporary Islamic Law” graduate course. He took a critical analysis of the various schools of Islamic law/thought today and attempted to explain the impact of the current political forces and the inherited knowledge on their stands. (Neo-)Salafis, Sufis, Movement, Modernist, and Post-Modernist streams are examples, and explained how the political divide between Sufi-style and the Ikhwan-style ideologies is dividing the Ummah everywhere. The main critique here is that none of the current schools is primarily taking a Quran-based methodology and therefore falling short in maintaining many of the Islamic core principles and objectives.
