An amazing meeting in the Parliament Building in Cape Town with MP Mandla Mandela, grandson of the late Nelson Mandela and current Chief of the Mandela tribe, who recently embraced Islam by the way. The purpose of the meeting was to explain to him the new project of the Graduate School of Maqasid Studies at the International Peace College of South Africa, and to ask for his support. He related to us very interesting details about Nelson Mandela’s relationship with Muslims and Islam; how Nelson Mandela during the years of the Struggle escaped for 3 years with the help of Muslim families in Cape Town, how he got his military training in Algeria, and how he shared many values with Muslims whom -he told his grandson- are a religious majority in Africa. He also told us about his own journey of embracing Islam and how his grandfather’s stories about Muslims helped him in this journey.
